Treasurer's Office

Overview

The Treasurer's Office is responsible for the collection of revenues for the Town of Elkton. Payment of utility bills, taxes, utility deposits and service charges are handled in the Treasurer's Office. The Treasurer's Office currently accepts Mastercard and Visa credit/debit cards for online payments as well as electronic checks for a service fee. Meals Tax

The Town collects Food and Beverage Tax (Meals Tax) payments for any prepared food or beverage offered or held out for sale by a restaurant or caterer for the purpose of being consumed by any individual or group of individuals at one time. This tax is collected and paid to the Town on the 20th of the month for the previous month. Tax collected at a rate of 7%. This is in additional to any local or state sales tax.

Cigarette Tax

There is an imposed excise tax on the sale of cigarettes to provide revenue for the general fund of the Town as set forth in the code. The Town sells cigarette tax stamps in rolls of 15,000 at the rate of .20 cents per stamp. The cost of an entire roll of stamps is $3,000.00.

Taxes

Taxes are due annually on February 5th.

  • Real Estate Tax Rate: $0.11 or 11 cents per $100
  • Personal Property Tax Rate: $0.46 per $100
Tax assessments are determined by Rockingham County. Late payments are subject to penalty and interest. Residents located in towns within Rockingham County are assessed a Town tax in addition to Rockingham County.
